Betty Jean Schaub
TRAVERSE CITY ? Betty Jean Schaub, 83, of Interlochen, died Monday evening, Feb. 22, 2010, at IndianTrail Foster Care. Born in East Jordan on Jan. 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Rebecca (Summerville) Higby.
Betty enjoyed her role as a homemaker, providing daily for her family by means of keeping a clean home, providing balanced meals and a listening ear, and instilling true and basic values to her four sons.
She was also a very private person who reached out to others by playing the organ and surrounding them with her favorite music. Betty was always proud of her Irish Heritage.
After Tom's retirement, Betty and Tom moved to Spring Hill, Fla., where she liked swimming and exercising in their outside pool. They returned to Michigan after 20 years and lived in Interlochen.
She is survived by her four sons, Patrick (Trish) Schaub of Interlochen, Daniel (Sandy Storey) Schaub of Williamsburg, Martin (Shelley) Schaub of Newaygo and Vincent Schaub of Interlochen; sister, Esther Lloyd of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, who died on May 19, 2004; and siblings, Grace and Ira.
Graveside services were held Wednesday at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Justin Grimm officiating.
