Robert E. Getts

METROPOLIS, Ill. ? Robert E. ?Bob? Getts of Metropolis, formerly of Rockford, Ill., died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
Mr. Getts, born July 8, 1923 in Rockford, was the son of Alan and Elizabeth Fagerburg Getts. Mr. Getts was of the Lutheran faith. He was a World War II Army veteran where he served in the 82nd Air Service Squadron from 1943 until 1946 in the battles of New Guinea, the Northern Solomons, the Philippine Islands, and the Southern Philippines. After his separation from services with the U.S. Army he became involved over a 40 year span with law enforcement and private security in Love Park. He served as the second post commander with the Clifford Johnson VFW Post #9759 in Love Park.
Mr. Getts is survived by his wife Audrey Crause Getts; three stepdaughters, Gayle Richards and husband Bill of Metropolis, Kelly Fastenau and husband Alan of Bloomington, Ind., and Kerry Chadwell and husband Keith of Clay City, Ind.; two brothers, Donald A. Getts of Belvidere and Howard L. ?Mike? Getts of Costa Mesa, Calif.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Getts was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will follow at a later date in the Willwood Burial Park at Rockford with VFW Post #9759 providing military honors. Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 Riverlane, Love Park, IL 61111 will conduct services.
