Frances Estell Aspenleiter, devoted wife and loving mother, lost her hard-fought battle with cancer at the age of 72 in her home surrounded by family in Danville, Kentucky on Saturday April 19, 2014. Fran was born May 19, 1941 in Guin, Alabama, the sixth and youngest child of Isaac and Flora Estell. Fran was a pioneer in the radio industry being one of the first female production managers and radio personalities in the country, starting her career in 1972 in the male-dominated Tulsa, Oklahoma country music radio market. She remained an active part of the country music radio industry through the 1970s, ?80s, ?90s, and into the early part of the 21st century as an active influence in that industry while working in Tulsa, Memphis, Danville, and Evansville. She was recognized many times by record companies and country music organizations for her contributions to the industry. In her retirement, she found enjoyment through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her lovely flower garden.
She is survived by her husband, John Randolph Aspenleiter of Danville, children; Timothy (Patricia) Gulley of Danville, Carrie Maxton of Jacksonville, FL, Cassandra (Paul) Hill of Danville, and Gordon Couch of Paducah; seven grandchildren; Lee Gulley, Aubrey Lanier, Jr, Christopher Tims, Michael Tims, Timmy Tims, and Jonah Couch, three great grandchildren; Kross Lanier, Crissa Tims, and Troy Tims and former daughter-in-law; Jessie Couch of Orlando, FL. and she was predeceased by her mother and father, siblings; Patti Guyton Coleman, Hazel Palmer, I.J. Estell, Andrew Estell, J.T. Estell, and one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5 ? 8 p.m., Wednesday April 23, 2014 at Stith Funeral Home. A Celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday April 24, 2014 at the Aspenleiter home at 604 N 3rd St, Danville. Memorials are suggested to Heritage Hospice. This small town girl, from very humble upbringings, saw the world, explored the oceans, and flew with the stars.
