OBITUARY: Agnes Rose Garthaffner
ARKVILLE - Agnes Rose Garthaffner, 88, of Dry Brook Road, Arkville, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at Mountainside Residential Center, Margaretville.
Born July 1, 1917, in Brooklyn, Agnes was the daughter of Felix and Susanna (Glowenska) Cetner.
She married Gerard M. J. Garthaffner on Sept. 19, 1942, at St. Stanislaus Church, Brooklyn. He died March 26, 1976.
Agnes was a dedicated tennis player, a person that read many books and was an expert crossword puzzle player. She also loved to knit and crochet.
The family home was built in 1960 and it became her permanent home in 1977.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Margaretville, and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program.
Agnes is survived by four sons, Gerard Garthaffner, twins, Robert and daughter-in-law Sandie, Martin and daughter-in-law Linda and William and daughter-in-law Laura; grandchildren, Jason, Michael, Jean, Aaron, John, Travis, Joseph, Todd, Shelly and Melissa; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Kassandra, Christian, Joseph, Justin, James and Payden; a beloved cousin, Stella V. Widenski; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Rita Adams, on Jan. 1, 1976, and a son, Peter, on March 30, 1999; and two brothers, Theodore and Edward Cetner.
Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Frank Batencourt officiating.
Committal services will be private.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 until service time at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
