  [S927] Obituary. Alice (Babbs) Smith Alice Babbs Smith, 97, of Clovis, Calif., died Monday, June 29, 2009, in Clovis, Calif. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Calvary Cemetery, Santa Barbara, Calif. Alice, born March 19, 1912, was one of eight children born to Minnie and Edwin Babbs in rural Newton. Alice married Herbert Smith in 1934 and moved to California in 1960. Mrs. Smith is survived by children, Maggie Stapp of Clovis, Calif., and Ed Smith of Marshall, Va.; as well as sisters, Lydia Hemrich of Effingham and Marie Ward of Newton; brother, Walter in Goodrich, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 17 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb; sister, Charlene Frazee; brothers, John, James and Earl; and stepsons, Herbert, Robert and Kenneth.
