Floral Schnabel
Obituary | Condolences
June 21, 1928 - March 31, 2007
The graveside service for Mr. Floral Schnabel, 78, of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and formerly of Woodland, will be held Friday, April 6, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland. Floral passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Brun's House in Alamo, Calif.
Floral Schnabel, son of Arthur and Bertha (Hoff) Schnabel, was born June 21, 1928 on the family homestead near Venturia, North Dakota. He married Verna Kaul on May 9, 1948 in Ashley, North Dakota, moved to Rapid City, South Dakota and on to California's Sacramento Valley in 1954, then on to Contra Costa County, Calif., until 1972 when he returned to country living in Yolo County until 2006 when he then moved back to Pleasant Hill. He traveled many long roads throughout his career as a professional long haul truck driver for Pacific Intermountain Express until 1980 during which time he was also a Western Teamster shop steward and negotiator. He, somewhat reluctantly, gave up the long haul trucking with his 1990 retirement from Consolidated Freightways and thereafter found enjoyment in personal travel.
He enjoyed the freedom of the sky that his private pilot's license afforded him during the 1970s and 1980s and upon retirement settled into a leisurely lifestyle where he found great pleasure in re-landscaping and fencing his yard, barbecuing for the family, fishing, watching baseball games and enjoying his buddies of the canine persuasion.
Mr. Schnabel is survived by his wife, Verna, brother, Harold and Esther Schnabel, sister, Adella and Clifton Backhaus, son, Gene and Gaylene Schnabel, daughters, Judy Schnabel, Wanda and Dennis Lathum and Valerie Schnabel. Grandchildren, Keith and Amelia Lathum, Susan and Daniel Hernandez, Nicholas Schnabel, Jennifer and Scott Moore, Christopher Adan, Frank Adan II, Robert Pourroy, Justin Pourroy and Nicole Pourroy, Great-grandchildren, Nina and Brandon Hernandez, Dominique and Damian Lathum and Aubrey and Chase Pourroy.
The family prefers and request contributions in Floral's honor to Hospice or the American cancer Society. McNary's Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
