Bennie (sometimes spelled Benny) was a well known bullfighter and rodeo clown during the 1940s and 1950s. He started in rodeo as a bareback bronc and bull rider, and later switched to clowning where he became renowned for his magic broom act. When not rodeoing Bennie worked as a brakeman for The Chicago and North Western Railway. Sometime around 1937 he married Lucille Hicks and a daughter, Billie, was born in 1938. The Bender family made their home in Mobridge, South Dakota.

Brakeman Bennie Bender, who is a well known rodeo clown and bull fighter, had the misfortune to break several bones when he was thrown by a Brahma bull in a rodeo at Lusk, Wyo. He spent a week in the hospital and is now recuperating at his home.
In 1962 Bennie and his family moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he worked as an Electrical Groundman until his death in 1972.
