A New York State appeals court ruled today that a former Rochester schoolteacher who suffered job-related psychological problems
and killed his supervisor 19 years ago should be given workers' compensation.
The Appellate Division of State Supreme Court in Albany decided that Michael Cerami's job as a cosmetology instructor during the
1966-67 school year contributed to his mental breakdown.
In March 1970, Mr. Cerami was accused of fatally shooting Stanley Bohrer , the school district official who had asked for the
hairdresser's resignation.
Mr. Cerami was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter, but later was acquitted by reason of insanity after a second trial. He was
committed to the Rochester Psychiatric Center for several years.
It was not clear from the decision how much money Mr. Cerami would receive from the state's Workers' Compensation Board.
