Subject: Obituary - Katherine Kaltenbrunn 1852-1942
Message: This obituary can be found in the Tri-County Record, Kiel, Wisconsin. Issue - Thursday, December 24, 1942 - Page 1, Column 4 Mrs. Katherine Kaltenbrunn, aged 90, oldest member of the St. Gregory parish of St. Nazianz, passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Christel, a mile east of St. Nazianz on Sunday morning at 2 o'clock. She had been ill for some time. Mrs. Kaltenbrunn, nee Katherine Riesterer, was born April 18, 1852, in Baden, Germany, and in 1871 came to America, direct to St. Nazianz. In September, 1874, she was married to Louis Kaltenbrunn at St. Nazianz, by the late Rev. P.A. Mutz. After their marriage they bought the farm now occupied by Louis Adelman, where they lived until 1912 when they retired, making their home in the village of St. Nazianz. Fourteen children were born to the couple, four of whom died in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Anton Schleh died May 31, 1925. Her husband also preceded her in death in January, 1924. Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Albert Christel of Valders R.1, Mrs. John Michels and Mrs. Joseph Gaerthoeffner of Sheboygan, Mrs. William Wollersheim of Kiel R. 2, and Mrs. Anton Eberle of Valders R. 1; four sons, Anton of Random Lake, Joseph and Louis of West Allis and Peter of Oakwood; 50 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild. Funeral services were held this Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Gregory's church and burial was made in the adjoining church cemetery. The Rev. Fintan Holzknecht officiated. Postnote: This is the obituary of my great-grandmother. I have researched the church records and she was married to her husband in August of 1875, not September of 1874 as the obituary states. Her husband was also known as Ludwig.

    Subject: Viktor Kaltenbrunn's ship
Message: Cheryl: You have MADE my day! I am so excited to get some information on the ship/immigration date, etc. Thank you! What is the CD? Does you have any details on a name of a town in Baden they immigrated from? Is the Schwoerer related to the man Christine married? (Viktor's daughter from his second wife Eva?) Did you find Eva's immigration? Supposedly she was from Baden too - Geigel I think was her maiden name. Viktor may have had a sister - a found a Katherina Kaltenbrunen who died in the convent - not sure if she was a nun or just lived there as she was single. Because the name is so familiar I thought there might be a connection. Viktor's first wife's maiden name was Catherine Stoll - any other Stoll's? What about a Math. Wollersheim or Anton Schleh? One of Math. sons and Anton married a granddaughter of Viktor's. Could you check some other names? Katherine Riesterer (Viktor's daughter- in-law, Maurus Riesterer (may have been an uncle of hers - apparently she did not come over with her parents. Felix Pfefferle (his son was a witness at [Viktor's son] Ludwig's marriage, Frank/Franz Schwab - his grandson married one of Viktor's granddaughters, Franz Joseph Garthoffner/Garthaffner/Gothofner/Gaerthoeffner (multiple spellings)- his grandson married one of Viktor's granddaughters. I would so appreciate any info you might find and pass along. Have you looked for an actual ship's passenger list yet? Don't forget to give me info on the CD - I might need to order one of those. Thanks again. Can I do anything to help you? How are you related to Viktor? I have quite a bit of info on the children from his second family and would be happy to pass that along or mail you copies.
