    FRED D. OPP Fred D. Opp was born May 28, 1886, son of Daniel Opp and Katharina (Gohl) Opp. He was the sixth child in the family of nine children and the first to be born in the United States. His parents emigrating from Russia, settled in McPherson County in the late fall of 1884 on a farm 18 miles northeast of Eureka. Fred got married to Lydia Hoff on October 21, 1908 at the home of the bride's father, Mike Hoff, by Rev. Gustave Zenk of the Reformed Church. They settled on Daniel Opp's farm (father of Fred). Fred D. Opp family Lydia Hoff Opp was the oldest daughter of Mike Hoff. She was born April 13, 1890 and had five sisters and four brothers. Fred and Lydia Opp were blessed with six children: Reinhold, Arthur, Ella, Herbert, Anna and Ervin. Reinhold was married to Lea Hauck and passed away at the age of 26 on April 22, 1936. Arthur was married to Martha Stroh and he passed away at age 63 on August 20, 1975. Ella married Otto Schnabel. Herbert was married to Marie Kaul and he passed away at the age of 52 on July 27, 1967. Anna married Reuben Mettler. Ervin married Lavern Aman. Fred Opp was active in farming and enjoyed raising horses. He was on the school and church boards for many years. They had good years and bad years and also sad years. The Opps built a new house in Eureka and retired in the fall of 1948, and son Ervin took over the farm. The Opps celebrated their 25th, 50th and 65th anniversaries. They passed away within one year of each other, Fred on January 5, 1975 and Lydia on October 17, 1975.

    HERBERT AND MARIE OPP Herbert, Marie and family Herbert was born near Eureka, August 6, 1915 to Fred D. and Lydia (Hoff) Opp. Both Fred and Lydia were born in South Dakota and passed away in 1975. Other children in the family included: Reinhold and Arthur, both deceased; Ella Schnabel, Anna Mettler, and Ervin. Marie was born January 17, 1915 near Ashley, North Dakota to George and Elizabeth (Fischer) Kaul. George was born November 2, 1888 and Elizabeth was born October 31, 189.0. They both were born in Russia and came to the United States in June 1913. They farmed seven miles south of Ashley until their retirement. George passed away September 26, 1973 and Elizabeth passed away June 2, 1980. Marie has one adopted brother, Ervin G., who lives at Townsend, Montana. Herbert and Marie were married June 5, 1938. They farmed until Herbert's death July 29, 1967. After Marie moved to Eureka she worked as a nurses aid at the local hospital for eleven years. Herbert was and Marie continues to be an active member of the Reformed Church. They were the parents of two sons: Roger, born June 2, 1939, married Joyce Anderson from Vermillion, South Dakota. They have three children, Kevin, Michael, and Kimberly. Floyd, born September 7, 1945, married Donna Lammle of Long Lake, South Dakota. They have three children, Penelope, Robin, and Andrea.

    ERVIN OPP Ervin Opp family Ervin Opp, son of Fred and Lydia (Hoff) Opp, was born March 19, 1926 northeast of Eureka. He married LaVern Aman, daughter of Emil and Martha (Job) Aman, on June 1, 1947. They lived on the homestead with Ervin's parents until 1949 when Fred and Lydia moved to Eureka. Today, Ervin and LaVern continue to operate the family farm. Four children were born to Ervin and LaVern: Arnold Earl, Kenneth Ervin, Darold Duane and (this had to be a girl) Mark Wayne. Arnold, born January 13, 1948, married Susan Punton on June 22, 1968. They were blessed with four children: Sheri and Shawn (twins), Todd and Shannon. Todd died at the age of one year, nine months after a lifelong illness. Arnie was co-owner of A and G Equipment Company in Fargo, North Dakota until his death in an auto accident October 17, 1980. Susan and the children reside in Fargo, North Dakota. Kenneth married Jeanne Streeter February 15, 1975, and they have three children, Cami, Kara and Ryan. They live in Ellendale, North Dakota where Ken is the administrator of the Ellendale Nursing Home. Kenneth was born April 17, 1949. Darold, born October 3, 1954, married Pamela Gruneich on April 26, 1980. Dr. Opp received his dental degree at the University of Nebraska and owns a dental practice in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Mark was born June 29, 1961 and presently works with his parents on the family farm. He received a Metal Technology degree at Northern State College in 1981.
