Pauline Froelich was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Mandan, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Immel) Froelich. She received her education at St. Anthony Grade School in St. Anthony. On June 21, 1937, she was joined in marriage to Peter Beckler at St. Anthony Catholic Church. They farmed in the St. Anthony area until 1947, when they moved to Mandan. Pauline worked at the McDonald Hotel, George's Bakery, and for 28 years, she was employed at the Red Owl in Mandan and Bismarck. Pauline will be fondly remembered as a socially reserved, yet generous woman. She freely gave of her time for her family and others she knew. She was certainly self-reliant - never wanting to impose on others. She possessed a great sense of pride. Pauline was meticulous, being a spotless housekeeper. Historically minded, Pauline obtained mementoes such as World War II stamps and ration coupons. In her earlier years, she treasured any time she could be gardening. One of her lifelong talents was baking and cooking. The old German recipes were some of her favorites. Pauline was an avid basketball fan. Her top interests were Michael Jordan and the Celtics. She knew all of the players and kept their stats. Throughout Pauline's life, her family remained top priority. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. Photos of her family forever surrounded her in her home. She was constantly interested in what her loved ones were involved in. Pauline will be deeply missed and always held dear by her loving family: one daughter and son-in-law, Bonita (Tom) Lang, Fairfield Bay, Ariz.; one son and daughter-in-law, Melvin (Clara) Beckler, Hazen; six grandchildren, Amy and Kevin Lang, Kim (Ken) Bunnell, Alan (Audra) Beckler, Vicki (John) Volk and Valerie (Richard) Jones; eight great-grandchildren, K.J. and Masyn Bunnell, Jacob and Brittany Beckler, Mitchell Bartling, Jonathan Volk, and Savannah and Sierra Jones; one sister and brother-in-law, Emma (Harold) Brady, Mandan; and one brother, Joseph Froelich, Bismarck.
