Froelich, 100, formerly of Selfridge, ND, passed away February 17, 2011 at Maple View Memory Care Community in Bismarck, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Julian Nix OSB as celebrant and Rev. Benedict Fischer OSB as concelebrant. Burial will be at the Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 2:00 9:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 pm followed by a Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Joseph was born in Mandan, ND on June 18, 1910. He attended rural schools near Mandan and the Hanson Auto Tractor and Electric school at Fargo, ND. He was employed by the Stevens Brothers Construction Company for four years. He was united in marriage to Martha Collis on December 26, 1934 in St. Anthony, ND. They moved to Selfridge, ND where Joseph was employed as mechanic for the Collis and Ellingson Garage. He later purchased the Hinton and Becker Garage, and was then known as the Froelich Garage. He operated the garage until it was destroyed by fire in January 1953 and in which he received 3rd degree burns which almost took his life. Several years were then spent farming near Selfridge, Shields and Cannon Ball. Later he purchased five milk trucks and delivered milk to the Selfridge Cheese Plant from nearby communities. He was a member of the Sioux County Welfare Board for 12 years, a member of the Selfridge School board, and the Selfridge Town Board. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Selfridge. He retired in 1962 and he and his wife then moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1977. Joe returned to the Mandan-Bismarck area in November 2001. Joseph will be dearly missed by his son, Larry (Margy), Mandan; daughters, Maureen (Bob) Yantzer and Lynn Kraft, all of Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law, Harold Brady, Mandan; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha, who passed on March 22, 1997; parents, Joseph and Julia (Immel) Froelich; grandson, Terry Lee Froelich; brothers, John (Eva) Froelich; sisters, Francis (Phillip) Berger, Rose (Tony) Leingang, Cecilia (Tony) Bender, Betty (Joe) Magilke, Pauline (Pete) Beckler, and Emma Brady; infant twin brother and sister, Peter and Martha; and infant sister, Julie. Joseph Froelich
Joseph J. Froelich, 100, formerly of Selfridge, passed away Feb. 17, 2011, at Maple View Memory Care Community, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Julian Nix OSB as celebrant and the Rev. Benedict Fischer OSB as concelebrant. Burial will be at the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
