The following is taken from Ruth Buchholtz? research on the Hiebs.
Christian B. Hieb, son of Balthasar and Karolina Olhauser Hieb, was born December 19,1856, in Neudorf, South Russia. He married Katherina Magdalena Grosz December 28, 1878, at Springfield, South Dakota. She was born January 21, 1861. They moved to a farm purchased from John Leahy on March 13, 1879. It was known as the David Leahy Homestead.
Here they had four sons, $tephan, Balthasar, Fred, and Conrad and two daughters, Caroline and Pauline. In the fall of 1892 they moved to Butte, Nebraska, where Jacob was born the following year, on August 30, 1893. Three years later they moved back to their farm. Here they had a daughter, Cristine, and two sons, August and Julius.
Christian heard that land was cheap around Kramer, North Dakota, so he sold his farms and purchased a section near, Kramer 1903.
In 1923 they moved back to Tripp, South Dakota, where they purchased a home south of the school. Here they remained until Katherina died, March 17, 1925. Christian then made his home with his son, Stephan, until his death July 12, 1929, after long and severe suffering, at the age of 72.
