Raymond Froelich
Raymond Froelich
Raymond Jack Froelich, 83, Billings, Mont., passed away Dec. 31, 2008. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Monday, Jan. 5, at St. Bernard's Parish, Billings.
Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. MST Sunday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, Billings.
Ray Froelich was born in Mandan on Jan. 21, 1925. He grew up in Mandan with his parents, Julia and Andreas, and his siblings James, Irene and Margaret. He moved to Glendive, Mont., as a child. He graduated from Dawson County High School in 1943. He then attended Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont., for a short time and worked in Seattle before returning to Glendive.
He met Mary Margaret Monroe on a trip to Europe in the mid-1960s. They were married in Dunellen, N.J., on Aug. 5, 1967, and then resided in Glendive. They had two children in the upcoming years. Raymond Joseph was born in 1969, with James Andrew following close behind in 1970. Ray worked at Montana-Dakota Utilities/Williston Basin Interstate Pipeline Co. in Glendive for 40 years. He retired in 1988. Ray and Mary moved to Billings in 1993. He took care of Mary during her long battle with cancer until her death in 2005. Ray enjoyed keeping up with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Madeline Froelich; his sons, Raymond Joseph Froelich, Bismarck, and James Andrew Froelich and daughter-in-law, Allison Vandenweghe Froelich, Prairieville, La.; his grandchildren, James Andrew Froelich Jr. and Abbygail Marie Froelich, Prairieville; his sister-in-law, Vera Froelich, Houston; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Roseann Monroe, Orange Park, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Twyla Kilian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia and Andreas Froelich, Glendive; his wife, Mary Margaret Froelich, Billings; and his siblings, James Henry Froelich, Houston, and Irene Emma Froelich, Hermiston, Ore.
Donations in memory of Ray can be sent to St. Bernard's Parish or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation.
