PORT BYRON, Ill. ? Jean O. DeMay, 81, of Port Byron, Ill,. died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, Diabetes Association or Cancer Society. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.
She was born March 24, 1927, in Kewanee, Ill., to Philip and Alma Gillispie Thurwanger. She married Marvin DeMay on April 11, 1964, in Kewanee.
Jean held many jobs in the area, including Mobile Home Improvement, the credit bureau in Moline, and East Moline Wholesale. She was also a nurses aide at St. Francis Hospital in Kewanee and volunteered at Illini Hospital for eight years.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in East Moline and she enjoyed traveling, cooking and baking, playing cards and in her younger years roller skating. Jean especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her spouse, Marvin; daughter, Krisandra (Tom) Gavin, of Wyoming, Ill., and Kathy (Danny) Andris, of Gilbert, Ariz.; son, Michael Demay, of East Moline; sister, Doris Kirman, of Kewanee, and Ella Mae Pyle, of Pheonix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Tara (Darin) Pauls, of Arizona and Jared (Martiann) Gavin, of Cary, Ill.; and great-grandson, Maximus Pauls, and one great-grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by a son at birth and sister, Lois Mann.
