OTTAWA — Elwyn "LeRoy" Thurwanger, 86, of Ottawa, died Saturday, Jan. 3, at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, Fla. A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at St. Columba Church in Ottawa with the Rev. David Kipfer, pastor. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa with liturgical prayers at 3:45 p.m. LeRoy was born March 12, 1928, in Kewanee, to Edward and Elsie (Hawks) Thurwanger. He married Mary E. Faber on May 3, 1952, in Santa Barbara, Calif. LeRoy served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Korea. He was a milkman, was self-employed as a Sealtest distributor, worked at Pitstick Dairy for most of his career and then retired from Prairie Farms. LeRoy was a member of St. Columba Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Ottawa; six children, Donna (Robert) Walton, Mary Ann (Charles) Van Grevenhof, Cathy Fultz, Janet Cetwinski, Gary (Donna) Thurwanger and David (Sandy) Thurwanger; 15 grandchildren, Brian (Jen Kanter) Walton, Diane (Charlie) Oskierko, Eric (Stacey) Walton, Mark (Michelle) Walton, Scott Walton, Mary Walton, Carl (Jaclyn) Van Grevenhof, Clint Van Grevenhof, James (Lessie) Fultz, Shannon Cetwinski, Rachael (Chad) Bradley, Nicole (Dustin Von Ruden) Thurwanger, Ally Thurwanger, Jeremiah (Teagan) Derrick and Zachary Derrick; 10 great-grandchildren, Anastasia, Annabelle, Tyler, Peyton, Camden, Addison, Tommy, Brittan, Brayden and Paxton and many loving cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
