Message: From the Huntington Herald Press Online, July 17, 2000 Willard A. Smith, 86, of Yorktown and formerly of 725 Esther St., died at 3:40 a.m. Friday (July 14, 2000) at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. Mr. Smith was retired from Memcor, where he was an electrical technician. He was also the former owner of the Majenica Grocery Store from 1947-55. He was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Huntington. He was born on June 10, 1914, in Wells County, to James E. and Kittie Wilson Smith. He was a 1933 graduate of Bluffton High School. On Feb. 24, 1940, in Huntington, he married Helen E. Hergenroether. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Michael A. Smith, Olympia, Wash., and Donald K. Smith, Wausau, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Marilyn A.) Doyle, Muncie; a brother, Clyde Smith, Eagle Point, Ore.; a sister, Mildred Thornburg, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Smith, Harry Smith, Charles Smith and Clarence Smith; and two sisters, Elizabeth Wire and Wuanita Patten. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington, IN 46750.
