The Paris Express, Paris, Logan Co., AR Thursday, 24 Mar 1938 WELL KNOWN LOCAL CITIZEN DIES THURSDAY Funeral Services for John Henery Zeiler To Be Held Friday Morning John Henry Zeiler, age 71 years, owener and operator of the Commercial Hotel and a retired merchant, who had been residing in Paris for the past 59 years, died Thursday ( today ) at 3:10 a. m. from an illness of pneumonia. He had been ill for two weeks, but had been in a critical condition since Monday evening when he was placed in an oxygen tent. Born in St. Minrod ( Meinrads ) Ind., Jan. 6, 1866, Mr. Zeiler came to Arkansas in1879. He completed his education here, having graduated from Subiaco College with the class of 1892. Upon graduating from college, Mr. Zeiler entered the mercantile business in Webb City and remained in business there for two years, going from webb City to Fort Smith, where he was in business six years. He then came to Paris where he was in business for 38 years and formerly operated the Model Store. He had been retired from business for the past eight years. A member of St. Joseph Church, The Holy Name Society, Catholic Knights of America, the St. Joseph Benevolent Society and the Woodman of the World, Mr. Zeiler was always active in the religious and business activities of his community. Funeral service will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at the St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Father Thomas Buergler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery with the Evans Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be: George Wahl,Chas. Fischer, Ben Ihle, John Vorster, Theo Mashaw and Chas. Zimmer. Surviving relatives are: his wife ( Matilda Baerlocher Zeiler ); three sons, George, Emil and Alois Zeiler all of Paris; two daughters, Mrs. Anton ( Katherine ) Benz and Miss Mary Zeiler both of Paris; three brothers, Joe, Andy and Frank Zeiler all of Paris; and one sister, Mrs. S. A. ( Mary ) Connaughton of Paris and several grandchildren. [This John Henry Zeiler was my great uncle.]
