Obituary from the South Hills Record - (Aug/5/2007): William J. Abt Jr., 82, of O'Hara Township died suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 at UPMC St. Margaret He was born in Pittsburgh on July 25, 1924 and was the son of the late William J. Abt and Marie Neff. Mr. Abt was a resident of O'Hara since 1954. He was a construction analyst for the Department of Housing and Urban Development for 22 years until his retirement, He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was a member of St. Edward Church, Blawnox. Mr. Abt was a "finished carpenter," and his first love was carpentry. He enjoyed camping and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Elma C. Abt of O'Hara; sons, David (Dorothy) Abt of Hershey, and Russell (Barbara) Abt of Bend, Ore.; daughter, Diane (Jim) Leslie of Indiana Township; and sister, Jean Moore of Castle ShannoIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William J. Abt III. Friends were received at the Thomas M. Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, 930 Center Ave., Blawnox, where prayers were recited. Mass of Christian Burial was in St. Edward Church. Interment followed in St. Mary Cemetery, O'Hara.
