- [S927] Obituary.
SUTTONS BAY ? Rosaline M. Kiessel, 86, of Suttons Bay, passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at Tendercare of Leelanau.
Rosaline was born April 28, 1925, in Lake Leelanau, the daughter of August and Clara (Hart) Schaub. On Oct. 23, 1943, at St. Mary's of Lake Leelanau, she married her loving husband of 67 years, Clifford J. "Jack" Kiessel. He preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2011.
Rosaline attended school until the eighth grade and worked ever since. Rosaline loved to sew and made many quilts. She loved flowers and many people would drive by and stop to take pictures of her flower garden.
Rosaline was an excellent cook and baker, and canned all sorts of goods. She and Jack grew in their garden: red peppers, raspberries, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and 150 heads of cabbage. One couldn't stop by the Kiessel home without leaving with a baked good or something.
A favorite saying of Rosaline's was "You'll never miss what you give to others."
Rosaline is survived by her five children, Mary (Frank) Cornell, of Sand Lake, John (Lynn) Kiessel, of Grand Rapids, Jim (Sarah) Kiessel, of Suttons Bay, Charlotte (Randal) Korson, of Traverse City, and Alan Kiessel, of Gaylord; nine siblings: twin brother, Theodore (Pauline) Schaub, Dorothy Reicha, Leona Salisbury, Willard Schaub, Mildred Jarvis, Albert Schaub, Irene (Jim) Hawkins, Gladys (Paul) Dover, Ralph (Josie Hanna) Schaub; sisters-in-law, Martha (Kovarik) Brown, Rita Kiessel; 13 grandchildren, Kathleen (Craig) DeBruyn, Robert (Kathy) Cornell, Michael (Amy) Cornell, Todd Kiessel, Lori (Craig) Harden, James (Tami) Kiessel Jr., Jennifer (Allen) Benson, Jacqueline (Avery) Bunek, Bessy Braley, Maurice (Morry) Straubel, Patrick (Donelle) Kiessel, Lee (Sharon) Kiessel and Nathan Kiessel; and 24 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
She was preceded in death by a sister in her youth.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m., with the Rosary at 5 p.m., at Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at St. Michael's Church in Suttons Bay. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Fr. James Doherty will serve as celebrant.
Memorials may be directed to Mass Intentions.
Please share thoughts and memories with Rosaline's family on their online guestbook above.
