CHAPPUIS Jack Emile Chappuis, M.D. passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2011. Born in Rayne, LA on May 30, 1921. He was the son of Archibald Augustus Chappuis and Elise Daboval Chappuis. Beloved husband of Carolyn Rentz Chappuis for 66 years. A long time resident of New Orleans until relocating to Mandeville after Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Chappuis received his undergraduate degree, as well as his medical degree from Louisiana State University. During World War II he was stationed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania as a military psychiatrist. From there he returned to New Orleans where he became the Director of the Child Guidance Center of New Orleans. In 1963, he opened his private practice in child and adult psychiatry. Dr. Chappuis was an avid LSU football fan. He also loved travel, in particular making many trips to Europe. Another great love of his life was playing golf, the highlight of which was making a hole in one at Metairie Country Club where he and his family were members for many years. Along with his wife, Dr. Chappuis is survived by 5 children, Kathryn C. Bachemin and husband Paul, Robert Daniel Chappuis and wife Stacie, James Philip Chappuis and wife Julie, Jack E. Chappuis, Jr. and wife Lesley, and Jeffery Paul Chappuis. He is survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Donald and Charles Chappuis, and was predeceased by his brothers Richard and Steve, and sister, Dorothy Kemper. Burial will be private.
