Gerald L. Carter, 92, of Sebring, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:57 a.m. surrounded by his family at Alliance Community Hospital.
Born on September 5, 1922 in Barnesville, Ohio to Virgil F. and Iva G. (Gibbons) Carter, he was raised in Barnesville and had lived in the Alliance and Sebring areas for most of his life.
A veteran of WWII, he served our country in the U.S. Army and had retired from Transue & Williams Forge as a Crane Operator.
He was a member of Local 1603 at Transue and Williams Forge, a Lifetime member of DAV Chapter #50, and was a member of the North American Hunting Club, and the National Rifle Association.
Gerald’s life passion was farming. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his four daughters, Marcia Vernon of Alliance, Cathy (Rick) Eckert of Beloit, Bobby (Jim Shofroth) Schmitt of Alliance,and Gail Kaiser of Alliance; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Virgil Carter of Minerva; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Mary (Kress) Carter; three sisters, Olive Spencer, Lillis Flenniken, and Adda Belle Cutshaver; three brothers, Wilfred Carter, Norman D. Carter, and Julius Judy Carter.
Interment, with military honors, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
