Patrick K. Hill, 14, son of State Highway Patrolman and Mrs. Edgar F. Hill of 58 Green street, died at Bethesda Hospital at 3:05 p.m. Friday some eight hours after the motorbike he was riding was struck by an automobile at Sharon avenue and Fishers lane. He was a newspaperboy for The Times Recorder. The boy was a freshman at Rosecrans High School. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, where he was an altar boy. It was the first traffic fatality in the city in 22 months and the 15th in Muskingum County this year. the victim's father has been with the Ohio Highway Patrol since 1944 and has been stationed here since the Zanesville post was established in 1953. The youth sustained a fractured skull. Patrolmen Paul Thompson and Charles Rush, who investigated, said young Hill was struck by an automobile driven by William Fisher, 28, of Route 6. Officers said Fisher told them he was driving west on Sharon avenue when he saw a bike rider ahead. The youth started to make a left turn off Sharon avenue onto Fishers lane when the accident occurred at 6:56 a.m. Police said the car skidded on the icy pavement a distance of 112 feet before striking the youth, hurling him and the bike another 117 feet. Police Sgt. Richard Tracy said the case will be referred to the grand jury. Fisher was en route to work at OK Coal Company in South Zanesville. He was not held. The motor bike was owned by Patrick Untied of 120 Green street who witnessed the accident, police said. The investigation is continuing. According to traffic records, Zanesville recorded its last previous fatality on Feb. 3, 1962 when Joseph Tigor, 3, of 862 Cabott drive was struck and killed by a car on Pershing road.Young Hill was born Jan. 6, 1949, at Barnesville, a son of Edgar and Winifred Singer Hill. the family has lived in Zanesville the past 10 years. Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, William J. Hill of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Joan Jones of 503 Hedgewood avenue, Judith M. and Sandra Hill, both of the home; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Hill of Nashport Route 1; and a niece, Erin Louise Hill of the home.
