Eleanor M. McGrogan
1914 - 2015
McGroganWalnut Ridge, OH - Eleanor M. McGrogan, last surviving child of Leonard and Mary Ann (Dougherty) Muenz, died peacefully, Wednesday, February 11, 2015, in Walnut Creek , Ohio at age 100.
Born June 4, 1914 in Carnegie, PA, Eleanor attended Saint Luke's High School and Duquesne University. She worked as a secretary to Florence Fisher Perry, a Columnist for the Pittsburg press in the late 1930’s.
Although a devout pacifist, who would “rather pray with Esther than take the sword with Judith” , Mrs. McGrogan participated in a Civil Rights march in Warren as a member of the Warren Inter-Faith council.
In later years her linguistic interests extended to the study of ASL and Greek in order to translate religious services for the deaf and read the Bible in Greek.
A past member of the Esperonto League of North America, Eleanor had friends throughout the world and contributed to the support of an orphanage in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
Eleanor leaves behind three daughters, Mary Ann Miller of Marysville, TN, Margaret Fuller of Beaver, PA and Paulette Lee McGrogan at home; grandchildren, Christopher (Beth) Miller, Paul Clifton, Amanda Fuller (Justin Mogg), Mary Eleanor Hewlett, Katie Fuller, and Margaret (Jon) Bupp; great-grandchildren Ashley (Brian) Hartsell, Kelly (Brandon) Morgan, Riona Clifton, Daniel Fuller, Cate Bupp, Riley Bupp and Ian Bupp; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McGrogan was predeceased by her husband William P. McGrogan, whom she married August 6, 1940, an infant son, William Paul McGrogan Jr., her brothers, Leonard, Raymond and Robert Muenz, a sister Margaret Stripp, a grandson, Brian L. Miller and a grand son-in-law Mark Hewlett.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 1:00 pm, with calling hours from 1:30 to 2:30 on Saturday, February 14th, at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna.
The repose of the souls of William and Eleanor McGrogan will be remembered at a Mass celebrated at Sanctuaires Notre-Dame de Lourdes, in Lourdes, France.
