Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, Feb. 22, 2001FYOCK - Melvin R., 92, Main Street, South Fork, died Feb. 21, 2001, at home. Born Nov. 15, 1908, in Scalp Level, son of Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Huffman) Fyock. Preceded in death by parents: first wife Verna (Heilman) Fyock; and son, M. Heil Fyock. Survived by second wife, Darlene (McDonald) Fyock; son, David, married to the former Jean Placek Johnstown; and son, Brian Stropko, married to the former Crystal Oswalt; daughter-in-law, Linda Fyock, wife of Sam Weaver; and sister, Mable Greer, all of South Fork; grandchildren: Eric Fyock; Christian Fyock and his wife, Denise; Diana (Fyock) Knapp and her husband, Frank; Ryan Fyock and friend, Amanda Stein; and Austin Stropko; great-grand-children: Jessie, Shane, McKenna and Dylan Fyock; and Jessica Weingartner. Mr. Fyock and his first wife Verna founded and owned Fyock's Floral in South Fork from 1949 until 1966. Previously he had worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad. He worked many years with Homer George Funeral Home in both South Fork and Salix. In his mid-70s he retired as a cutter from Empire Foundations. He was the basketball scorekeeper and statistician for South Fork Croyle, Triangle Area and Forest Hills high schools for more than 52 years. He also was a member of the football chain crew for those high schools. He was an active member of the South Fork Wesley United Methodist Church, serving in a variety of positions. He was a lifetime member of the South Fork Fire Co. and a member of the South Fork Lions Club. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Homer J. George Funeral Home, Salix, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, South Fork, the Rev. Donald Russell officiating. Interment, Mount Hope Cemetery.
