George Wilson Fyock, 87, of “Prosperity Hill,” Clymer, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, from his former earthly residence, his family home.
The son of Jacob Ira and Cora Belle (Uncapher) Fyock, he was born on July 10, 1928, in Green Township.
George was a graduate of the Indiana High School, class of 1946. He was a longtime member of the Purchase Line Church of the Brethren and had achieved the recognition of being the eldest living member of the church. George served his Lord and the church by being a deacon since 1952. For many years he was a Sunday school teacher and served on numerous commissions throughout the years.
In retirement, he volunteered with the Brethren Disaster Relief Service, participating in 22 disaster relief trips, as well as volunteering on five mission trips to Haiti with his church. He enjoyed his involvement with Camp Harmony.
George worked on his family farm until he married the former Maxine (Greene) Fyock on Dec. 2, 1947, and became a mason. For a number of years he was employed by Barnes and Tucker as a coal miner. He was a member of the local UMWA #1269. George’s retirement years also enabled him to have the time to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the local community kitchen. He was an avid chess player.
Two of his favorite pastimes were spending a great deal of time with his grandchildren and spending time in the outdoors farming and gardening.
George is survived by his nine children: Dexter Fyock, Melanie Fyock, Gwen Scorza and husband Fred, and Lydia Fyock, all of Clymer; Barry Fyock and wife Susan, of Masontown; Terry Fyock, of Toughkenamon; Olivia and Coralie Fyock, both of Clymer; and Elizabeth Longwell and husband Mark, of Homer City; his grandchildren: Buffy Orosz and husband Kevin; Chad Himes; Sarah, Jacqulyn and Paul Fyock; and Samuel, Joshua, Benjamin and Abigail Longwell; and his two great-grandchildren: Andy and Johnna Orosz.
