Donie Hansen, age 88, of Carrington, ND, died Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.
Donie Hansen was born July 16, 1920, to Bertha (Leopoldt) and Ed Stebner of New Home. On October 23, 1940, she married Edwin F. Hansen and brought a dowry of three cows and $500 cash to the marriage. After a short time of farming in the Sykeston area, Donie and Edwin bought a home section of land along the Pipestem Creek, nine miles south of Carrington. Edwin promised her a new house would be built within a matter of years. She patiently waited as she saw two barns, two granaries, and a large Quonset be constructed, along with the acquisition of additional land before she got her new house in the mid 50s.
Years before the terminology of multi-tasking, time management, and equal partnership became popular, Donie was doing all of it from assisting with the outdoor chores and field work to managing the household with the preparation of delicious food and the wise budgeting of resources to contribute to the expansion of the cattle and grain farm. Her time management skills were especially showcased on Sunday mornings when she would help complete the outside chores, bake one or two pies, do the prep work for the noon meal, and have the family (and herself) out the door in time for Sunday service. Delicious food was always available for the numerous visits from relatives and neighbors.

She was a member of the local homemakers club, Grace Lutheran Church and a charter member of Grace Lutheran???s LWML.
