Mable Atanasu

Mable Atanasu, 86, of Lead and formerly of Aberdeen, died Thursday, May 27, 2004 at David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility, Spearfish, SD. Her funeral will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at First Assembly of God, Highway 281 and Fairgrounds Road, Aberdeen with Rev. Nels Easterby officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m., Monday, at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 South Main St., Aberdeen and one hour prior to the service at the church. Mable (Feiock) Atanasu was born September 25, 1917 to Edward and Albina (Bender) Feiock on her grandparent's, Martin Bender's, farm east of Zeeland, ND. She lived in Zeeland until the age of eight, when she and her parents moved to a farm east of Eureka. In 1929, the family moved to Leola, SD where her parents began a cream station. They then moved to Long Lake, SD and operated a cream station there also. In March of 1934, Mable moved to Aberdeen, SD and met her future husband, John P. Atanasu. They were married on July 20, 1935. They moved to Lead, SD in January of 1995. John passed away on January 22, 1999. She became a resident of David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish on May 17, 2004 where she continued to reside until the time of her death. Mable was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church where she served on the Visitation Committee, taught Sunday school for seventeen years, was on the Kitchen Committee for twenty years and sang in the church choir. She also served as the Treasurer for the Ladies Mission Prayer Band for ten years. Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Frank) Kadlec of Ipswich, SD and Diana (Levi) Metzger of Lead, SD; one son, John D. (Lori) Atanasu of North Platte, NE; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Parish of Blue Springs, MO, Angeline (Nels) Easterby of Miller, SD and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one sister and two brothers. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Edward Manderfeld, Ron Manderfeld, Joshua Atanasu and Randy Kadlec and great-grandsons, Perry Job and Brandon Job.
