Vehmann, Florence Irene: Florence Irene Vehmann, daughter of Valentine and Elizabeth Funk Vehmann, was born Jul 16, 1909, in Harrington, OK. She departed this life Sunday, Aug 18, 1996, in the James River Care Center in Springfield, MO, at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 2 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Paul Vehmann; and a sister Minnie Davis. Florence is survived by a sister-in-law Blanche Vehmann of Grovespring, MO; a nephew Carlos Vehmann of Springfield, Mo; 3 nieces Valda Hagerman and Ozella Young, both of Springfield, MO, and Onita Harper of St. Louis, MO; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born in Oklahoma, and as an infant, moved with her family to Wright County, MO. She attended Little Creek Grade School and graduated from Hartville High School in the Class of 1929. She continued her studies at Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO, and Southwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Springfield, MO. In 1958, she received her Masters Degree in Administrative Education from Drury College in Springfield, MO. Her first teaching position was in Hartville, where she taught for 2 years. For 5 years she taught in rural schools in Wright County, and then spent 3 years in Seymour. She was employed by the Lebanon Rill School System for 24 years and was an elementary teacher for several years, before becoming an elementary school principal. She was principal of the old Washington School for a few years, and then became the first principal over the Phil M. Donnelly Elementary School from 1962 until her retirement in 1973. Florence was saved at an early age, and joined the Little Creek Baptist Church near Hartville. After moving to Lebanon, she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church, where she taught adult Sunday School. She was a very learned Bible scholar, and enjoyed teaching. In her free summer months, she enjoyed traveling and had visited such places as the Holy Land, Europe, part of Asia, South America, Canada, and Mexico, and had taken one trip around the world. Teaching was the love of her life, and she devoted herself to her students. Florence will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of her family, former students, fellow teachers, school administrators, and many friends. Burial: Little Creek Cemetery
