One killed, two injured in Ruskin collision
ANDY RAUN RUSKIN ? A Superior man was killed and his wife was injured here Thursday in a broadside collision involving a car and a pickup, Nuckolls County Sheriff Jim Marr reported. The driver of the pickup also was injured in the collision, which was reported to authorities at 9:59 a.m. Eldor Weiss, 85, of Superior was eastbound on U.S. Highway 136 just outside Ruskin when the 2000 Buick sedan he was driving collided with a northbound 2006 Chevrolet 2500 Series pickup driven by Walter Eggers, 83, of Ruskin, the sheriff said. Eggers was driving on County Road 4600, which runs along Ruskin?s west edge, and had entered the highway intersection in the path of the Weiss vehicle, which struck his pickup on the driver?s side just below the door handle, Marr said.The Weiss vehicle did a half-turn spin the intersection, where it came to a stop facing north. Weiss and his 82-year-old wife, Trilby, were taken by Deshler ambulance to the Thayer County Health Services hospital in Hebron. Weiss was pronounced dead at the hospital. Mrs. Weiss was transferred by air to BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln, where she was in stable condition this morning, Marr said. Her injuries include a fractured leg, the sheriff said. Despite having been struck broadside, Eggers? vehicle remained driveable after the collision, and he drove away from the scene of the accident, Marr said. Eggers drove two to three miles before stopping at a field where his son was harvesting, then was taken by private vehicle to the Hebron hospital, where he was treated and released later Thursday.

Eldor William Weiss the son of Carl and Rosa (Neuhart) Weiss was born February 6, 1923 on a farm near Davenport, NE. He departed this life on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 85 years.
Eldor was baptized on February 20, 1923 and was confirmed on June 25, 1938 all at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hebron, Nebraska. Eldor was united in marriage to Trilby Heintz on January 2, 1948 at Hebron, Nebraska. Eldor served his country during World War II. Eldor had worked at the Deshler Broom Factory and was employed by Thayer County as a bridge foreman for 32 years.
After his retirement Eldor and Trilby moved to Superior where they shared a passion for collecting, restoring and refinishing antiques. Eldor was a member of Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior, NE. Eldor enjoyed telling jokes and stores.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Johnny, brother LeRoy and sister Inez.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Trilby of Superior, NE; son Richard Hawkins of Orlando, FL; daughter Loxie Gibbens and husband Stephen of Loveland, CO; brother Eugene Weiss of Lincoln, NE; sister Mary Ann Taylor of Hebron, NE; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren other relatives and a host of friends.
