Obituary: Donald W. BrooksBorn July 18, 1947Died March 15, 1996Donald W. Brooks, 48, of 207 S. Main St., Wayland, died Friday, March 15, 1996 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, following a long illness.Don was born July 18, 1947 in Wayland, a son of Milton A. and Louita E. (Wetmore) Brooks. He was a 1965 graduate of Wayland Central School, and he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Cortland State in 1969 and his pharmacy degree from the University of Buffalo in 1975.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1969 to 1970.Don married Sally Malter, who survives, on Aug. 2, 1969 in Perkinsville. He was the owner and operator of the Livonia Pharmacy in Lakeville since 1986.Don was a communicant member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wayland, a member of the Theodore VanTassel American Legion Post #402 in Wayland, a past president of the Wayland Central School Board of Education, a board member of the Genesee Ensemble Theater, the National Federation of Independent Business and the Pharmaceutical Association N.A.R.D.Don enjoyed all aspects of sports, from coaching his son's Little League team and All-Star teams to the Youth Soccer League in Wayland. Don was also a devoted season ticket holder of the Buffalo Bills for many years.He is survived by his wife Sally (Malter) Brooks; one son, Jeff Brooks of Wayland; one daughter, Jennifer Brooks of Dansville; his mother, Louita (Robert) Bill of Wayland; one brother, Steve (Donna) Brooks of Wayland; one sister, Molly (Dick) Tweddell of Wayland; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steve and Betty Malter of Perkinsville, Roseann and Don Lawrence and Marlene and Charles Wellington, all of Arkport, Frank and Joyce Malter of Cohocton, Dorothy and Len Wager of Wayland and John Malter of Perkinsville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.Friends called from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland. A prayer service was held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wayland, celebrated by Rev. Paul Schnacky. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Perkinsville.Contributions may be made to the American Leukemia Society, American Cancer Society or the Donald Brooks Memorial Scholarship, c/o Wayland-Cohocton Central School.
