Obituary: Frank J. MalterBorn June 9, 1938Died January 17, 2005COHOCTON/PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. - Frank J. Malter, 66, a resident of both Cohocton and Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, Jan. 17, 2005, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte after a long illness.Frank was born on June 9, 1938, in Perkinsville, the son of Arthur and Magdalen (Gunther) Malter. He resided his entire life in the Perkinsville-Cohocton-Wayland area.After graduating from Wayland Central School, Frank served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1961 to 1967. He and Joyce White Meyer began an endearing relationship that lasted for more than 36 years. They entered into a loving marriage on March 11, 1989, at St. Ann's Chapel in Hornell.Over the years, Frank was a local businessman and farmer. He owned and operated Malter?s Market, a grocery store/meat market in Wayland and Cohocton. He and Joyce also owned Pleasant Valley Farm in Cohocton. He predominantly grew vegetables that were sold from a roadside stand near their home. As a butcher, Frank processed hundreds of deer for local hunters.When he wasn't working on his farm, in his garden or in his meat shop, Frank thoroughly enjoyed beating his opponents at cards, especially pitch. Another enjoyment was smoking his favorite cigars. One of his greatest joys, however, was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will truly be missed by his entire family.Frank was predeceased by both of his parents; two brothers, Arthur 'Buddy' Malter, Jr. and Stephen Malter; and a sister, Katherine Walters. He is survived by his wife Joyce Malter of Cohocton/Port Charlotte; two daughters, Toni Adriance of Cohocton and Cindy (Tom) Smith of Cohocton; three grandchildren: Nicolette Warner, Clifton J. Adriance III and Danielle Adriance; four great-grandchildren; sisters Roseanne Lawrence of Arkport, Marlene (Charles) Wellington of Arkport, Dorothy (Leonard) Wager of Wayland and Sally Malter (Bud) Higgenbotham of Wayland; a brother, John Malter of Perkinsville; sister-in-law Margaret 'Bettie' Malter of Perkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.Frank's family and friends called 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A prayer service was conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Frank at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Perkinsville. Interment took place in St. Joseph's Cemetery immediately following Mass.Contributions in Frank J.
