Message: WAYLAND ? Bernice H. Dries, 96, of East Avenue died Jan. 20, 2000 in Hornell after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 15, 1903 in Dansville the daughter of William and Harriet Kurtz Wittig and was a Wayland area resident all of her life. She married Walter C. Dries on June 9, 1926 at St. Joseph?s Church in Wayland. A member of the Wayland United Methodist Church she was a member of the Wayland American Legion Auxiliary and a past unit and county president. She was a 75 year member of the Wayland Rebecca Lodge and Atlanta Rebecca Lodge and a past Noble Grand. She was a past employee of Wayland Central School and the Heugot Silk Mill in Wayland. She was a past president of the Golden Agers and a member of the R.S.V.P. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter July 20, 1971 and two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her son, John Dries of Wayland; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Thomas Russell of North Cohocton; six grandchildren, Teresa Russell of Dansville, Rebecca Moore of Naples, Annette and Philipp Riesenberger of Atlanta, Bernhard and Margaret Lemp of Inn, Ind., Timothy and Robin Russell of Lakeland, Fla. and Mark and Sally Russell of Atlanta; seven step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling preceded funeral services at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home in Wayland. Rev. Osceola Wharton officiated. Interment, St. Joseph?s Cemetery.
