Florian was born April 18, 1937, in Breien, the son of Jacob and Pauline (Berger) Fleck. He grew up on the family farm and was educated in Breien. Florian enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956, and was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was a paratrooper and medic. He received a hardship discharge in 1957 due to his father's illness and came home to help his mother run the farm. On May 5, 1964, he married Edna Berger in St. Anthony.
In 1966, (during the Vietnam War) he worked as a civilian in Vietnam, building airstrips and roads. While there he realized what a wonderful country we live in and said, "No one should complain about America."
Florian loved the farm he grew up on, where he spent many years farming and ranching. He had a genuine love for the outdoors. By trade he was an ironworker for 35 years and a member of the Ironworkers Local 793. Florian belonged to the Moose and Eagles clubs. He loved going to the clubs and playing pinochle with his good friends. Fishing was another passion of his and also working on old John Deere tractors. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and old war movies, watching them over and over. He loved spending time with the grandchildren, taking them to the farm, teaching them to drive, etc. He had a heart of gold, always helping others.
Florian is survived by his wife of 41 years, Edna, Mandan; his children, daughter, Tammy (Brian) Washburn, Jamestown, and two sons, Terry, Bismarck, and Troy, Mandan; six grandchildren, four grandsons, Brent, Casey, Austin and Tanner, and two granddaughters, Jayden and Pressley; his mother, Pauline Fleck, Breien; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence (Joanne) Portland, Ore., Raymond (Joyce), Mandan, Jack (Lenora), Harlingen, Texas, and David (Sandy), Mandan; six sisters and five brothers-in-law; Emily (Joe) Schmidt, Bismarck, Beatrice (Bill) Berger, Mandan, Gardine Haff, Breien, Caroline (Matt) Magilke, Bismarck, Mary (Richard) Bendish, Fort Rice, and Pauline (Roger) Hatzenbuehler, St. Paul, Minn.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Bronstien and his staff and Dr. Huber and his staff for the wonderful care they gave Florian through his struggle with his illness.
