CONSTRUCTION WORKER DIES IN PLUNGE
SUMMERFIELD - Earl J. Baker, 48, of Lewisville Route 2 died instantly at 2:30 p.m. Thursday [20 Jul 1972] of a compound skull fracture sustained in a 20-foot fall at the Ohio Power Plant in Beverly, according to Dr. Kenneth Owen, Washington County coroner. Baker was reportedly employed at the plant as a construction foreman by Union Boiler.
Born Nov. 28, 1923, in Monroe County, he was a son of Amelia Schott Baker of Lewisville and the late Herman C. Baker. He was a member of Local 639 of Labor International of which he has served as president 10 years. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Burkhart. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Woodsfield VFW and Summerfield American Legion post.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his widow, the former Mary Leach; one daughter, Miss Marlene Baker of Philadelphia, PA; two sons, Joe of Kent and Larry Dale of the home; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Bruback of Baltimore, Md.; and a brother, Roger of Massillon.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Charles Calabrese officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery at Caldwell.

Summerfield - Earl J. Baker, 48, Lewisville R.D. 2, suffered fatal injuries about 2:30 p.m. Thursday when he fell from a tower at the Ohio Power Co. plant at Beverly.
Washington County Sheriff’s Department said Baker, a construction work foreman, was struck on the head by a piece of steel. He was dead on arrival at a Marietta hospital.
Born Nov. 28, 1923, in Monroe County, he was a son of Amelia Schott Baker of Lewisville R.D. 2, and the late Herman C. Baker.
He was a member of Local 639 Labors International and had been president of that local for 10 years. Baker was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Burkhart, the Summerfield Post of American Legion and the Woodsfield Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Leach; a daughter, Miss Marlene Baker, Philadelphia, PA; two sons, Joseph of Kent and Larry Dale of the home; his mother; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Brubach, Baltimore, Md. and a brother Roger of Massillon.
Friends will be received after 3 p.m. today at Brubach Funeral Home here.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Fr. Calabrese. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Caldwell.
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
