Oliver Thurman Gatten, 72, of Lewisville, Route 2, died Friday morning, March 2, 1973, at ten o'clock, at his home. He was born September 22, 1900, in Wayne Township, near Lewisville, the son of the late Winfield and Martha Smith Gatten. Mr. Gatten was a member of the Moose Ridge Memorial Chapel near Woodsfield. He was a retired farmer and served as Wayne Township Clerk for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Highman Gatten; four sons, William Muth, of Pleasant City; Kermit Gatten, of Marietta; Kenneth Gatten, of Hazardville, Connecticut, and Delmas Gatten, of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Eula Kahrig and Mrs. Sue Kuhn, of Columbus, and Mrs. Amy Furbee, of Newark; twenty-one grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Stella Willison, of Circleville,Ohio; Mrs. Chloe Farley, of Akron; Mrs. Edna Simmons, Mrs. Mary Hoover and Mrs. Ruth Cramblett, of Woodsfield, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at The Bauer and Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Ohio. Private services were held in their Chapel on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, with Minister J. V. A. Traylor and Joseph Moore officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield,Ohio.
