Viola Kingston Abbott, wife of A. Louis Abbott, died Thursday, May 1, 2014.
The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Waynesboro Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. The Very Rev. Dr. Gary L. Abbott, Sr., Dr. G. Al Wright, Jr. and The Rev. Dr. Jim Shumard will officiate. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens.
Viola was born to Teresa Rosenkranz and Carl Dewey Kingston in Evansville, Indiana, December 6, 1925. She grew up as a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was a graduate of St. Boniface Catholic School. Also, she was a graduate of Central High and Lockyear’s Business College in Evansville. She was a member of St. Mary’s on the Hill Catholic Church in Augusta at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Richard Kingston, Walter Dewey Kingston, Jacob Roy Guinn and her step-father Roy Guinn.
In addition to her husband she is survived by an aunt, Kitty Tenney of Evansville, IN; a sister, Maryann Titus of Phoenix, AZ; sister in law, Sarah Guinn of Evansville, IN; three children, The Very Rev. Dr. Gary L. Abbott, Sr. (Billie); Linda Abbott Hargrove (David); and Cindy Abbott Blount (Ashton); six grandchildren, G. Louis Abbott, Jr. (Jana), Russell W. Abbott (Tiffany), Catherine Hargrove Lewis (Lee), Caroline Hargrove Blackburn (Jason), Carl Ashton Blount, IV (Elizabeth), and Lanier Abbott Blount. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus (St. Mary’s on the Hill, Augusta) or to a charity of one’s choice.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 2, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home, 842 N. Liberty St. Waynesboro, GA. 30830
