Walter Cecil Miller

Walter Cecil Miller, 87, formerly of 317 Hickory Lane, North Manchester, passed away at 3 p.m. Thursday at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
Born on Sept. 8, 1917, in Peru, to Walter Eugene and Goldie Miller, he married Duenna Ruth Wilson on Nov. 19, 1941, in Wabash. She died on July 28, 2002. He started working for H.A. Thrush & Company and worked his way up through the ranks to Assistant to the President. Walter wrote a book, ?Pioneer in Hydronices,? which was a history of H.A. Thrush & Company from its conception to its merger with Amtrol, a Rhode Island company. He retired from Amtrol, Peru Division in 1982. He was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop No. 15 in Peru, a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church, and taught Sunday School classes in Peru and Rochester. He held several church offices and was delegate to the annual conference at Purdue. He was a member of the Peru and Rochester I.O.O.F. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by two sisters, Lucille M. Hoagland of Mexico, Ind., and Martha Esther Lynch of Watertown, Mass.; one brother, John A. and wife Jean Miller of Peru; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
His funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester. Burial is at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
