Ruth C. Wirtz (nee zwick) of Solon passed away at the age of 90 on Monday April 14, 2014 to be reunited in Heaven with her late husband Jay on his birthday.
She was a professional journalist her entire life, beginning with the Massillon Evening Independent (1943-1955). She then worked as a freelance writer for the Cleveland Press
and the Catholic Exponent from 1955 through 1959 as she was starting her family. From 1959 through 1971 she worked as a reporter for the Chagrin Valley Herald. In 1971 she
was named the editor of the Chagrin Valley Herald and the Solon Herald and in 1978 was also named editor of the Sun Press and the Sun Messenger. She was the recipient of
numerous state and national writing and editing awards. She was a member of the National Federation of Press Women (serving a term as president and twice as the
national convention chairwoman), the National Newspaper Association, the Ohio Press Women (serving as president from 1978 until her retirement), and the Solon Chamber of
Commerce (director 1979-1981). She also was co-chairman of the Solon Bicentennial Celebration committee.
She was listed in the reference book "Who's Who of American Women" in 1982.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Justin (Jay) and her sister Zita Zwick. She is survived by her son Justin (Jay) Jr. (Barb) of Solon, daughter Dorothy (Andy) Mauck
of London Ohio, sister Dorothy Zwick of The Sisters of The Humility of Mary, and Sister Eulalia (Lu) (Bill) Heck.

Sisters of the Humility of Mary, and Eulalia "Lu" (Bill) Heck, and the late Zita Zwick. Christian Burial Service Saturday, April 19, 10 AM at St. Rita Church, 32820 Baldwin Rd., Solon.
Family will visit with friends at Steinbauer Funeral Home, 33375 Bainbridge Rd., Solon from 6-8 PM Friday evening and immediately following services on Saturday. In lieu of
flowers memorials may be made to The Sisters of the Humility of Mary.
