James W. Metzger, age 75 of North Canton, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Thursday March 7, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Jim was born January 3, 1927 in Massillon to the late Oscar and Blanche (Snider) Metzger. He was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church in North Canton and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Jim was an Army veteran of WWII. He was retired from Sacred Heart of Mary following forty-three years of service and a former school bus driver for the Louisville School District.
Jim leaves behind his wife of forty-nine years, Rita (Hoover) whom he married January 3, 1953; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Joan Houck of North Canton, Jean and George Swaney of East Canton, Jane and Dewey Wise of Canton, Janet and Kenton Wells of Canton, Karen Metzger of East Canton and Linda and Duane Porter of East Canton; four sons and three daughters-in- law, Ed and Debbie Metzger of Louisville, Dale and Ruth Metzger of Marlboro, Alan Metzger of Cortland and Russ and Debbie Metzger of East Canton; six brothers and eight sisters-in-law , Richard and Shirley Metzger, Robert and Donna Metzger, Joe and Judy Metzger, Walter and Patty Metzger, Oscar and Gerry Metzger, Harold and Frank Metzger, Pauline Metzger and Kate Metzger; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice and Ray Martin and Alice and Albert Snyder, fifteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Thomas, and Paul Metzger.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday March 11 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Pauls Catholic Church in North Canton with Rev. Joseph S. Rudjak officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery in Harrisburg. Friends called Sunday evening from 5-9 p.m. at the Paque let-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
