Herbert Schlaht, 75, Valley City, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in Mercy Hospital, Valley City.
Mr. Schlaht was born July 5, 1926, near Cleveland, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1947 and served until 1948. He then returned to Cleveland, where he farmed. He married Catherine Meidinger in 1950 in Medina. N.D. They lived in Jamestown, N.D., where he attended business college and worked as a bookkeeper. He then lived in Dickinson, N.D., where he worked as a seismographer for Gulf Oil Co., traveling in Montana, Wyoming and Utah. He also worked at Minot (N.D.) Air Force Base, and Edlund Construction Co., Valley City.
He is survived by a son, Kirby of Oklahoma; a daughter, Valorie (Gilbert) Klein, Eureka, Calif.; three brothers, Rueben (Arleen), Cleveland, Eugene, Elroy (Elaine), both Valley City; a sister, Martha Rott, Jamestown; and three grandchildren.
Visitation: Today from 1-9 in Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Funeral: Friday at 1:30 in the funeral home.
Burial: Cleveland Cemetery.
