Urban "Jake" Haas
Urban Haas, 88, of Okawville, Ill., born, Aug. 2, 1920, in Mascoutah, Ill., departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the Grange Nursing Home in Mascoutah, Ill.
Jake and Bertie worked their first years together in a tavern and dance hall and then spent 33 years logging timber and running a sawmill. They worked together in their business and both enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and trap shooting. Jake was especially fond of the outdoors. He was a member of the Half Moon Lake Club and the Washington County Farm Bureau and he enjoyed polka music. Mr. Haas was a faithful member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church of Okawville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alverta "Bertie", nee Lunte, Haas whom he married May 28, 1941, in the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Okawville, Ill., and who died Aug. 27, 2001; his parents Philip and Louise, nee Klingelhoefer, Haas; two brothers, Philip and Allan Haas; and a sister, Verene Mellein.
Surviving are his two daughters, Mary (Gary) Mueller and Lynn (John) Stricker all of Okawville, Ill.; five grandchildren, Michael (Brandi) Mueller, Joey (Tricia) Mueller, Nicole Mueller (fiance Brian Muenchau), Tim Mueller (special friend Kim Kolweier) and Ashlyn Stricker; three great-grandchildren, Jillian and Matthew Mueller and Marina Morgan; a sister-in-law, Doris Haas of Trenton, Ill.; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and a host of friends.
Should friends desire, mass offerings or memorials may be made to the Grange Nursing Home or the St. Barbara Catholic Church and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home of Okawville. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at www.campagnafuneralhomes.com
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, and from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at the Campagna Funeral Home, Okawville, Ill. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
Funeral: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 9, 2008, at St. Barbara Catholic Church, Okawville, Ill., with Fr. Kenneth York officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Childhood Cemetery at Mascoutah, Ill.
