Dennis V. Kochert, 63
Dennis Vincent Kochert, 63, died unexpectedly Saturday March 8, 2008, in his Lafayette residence.
Born in Lafayette on May 29, 1944, the son of the late Vincent and Emma Burkle Kochert, he was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Kochert graduated from Southwestern High School and received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Purdue University. He contracted polio at an early age and overcame it in his late teens.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Order of the Secular Franciscan; Central Catholic Athletic Boosters; Tippecanoe County Historical Society; Indiana Teachers Association; Indiana Repertory Theatre; Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge; and Lafayette North End Neighborhood Association.
Mr. Kochert taught for Tippecanoe School Corp. for more than 25 years, having taught at East Tipp Junior High School. He later worked as a teacher's assistant at Lafayette Jefferson High School, and later at McCutcheon High School.
He was an avid supporter of Purdue and Central Catholic High School sports.
Surviving are two sisters, Pat Brown (husband: Jim) of Brookston, and Sister Raphael Kochert, O.S.F., of Lafayette; and four brothers, George Kochert (wife: Cheryl) and Frank Kochert (wife: Dr. Carolyn), both of Lafayette, Mike Kochert (wife: Phyllis) of Gooding, Idaho, and Dick Kochert (wife: Judy) of Remington.
Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, with Rosary at 4:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Fr. Dan Gartland officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery. Also surviving are 16 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. If friends desire, memorials may be made to Central Catholic High School or the American Heart Association.
