Alice Walter
Sunday, July 7, 2002SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Mary Alice Walter, 78, of Scott City died on Saturday, July 6, 2002.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1924 at Kelso, Mo., the daughter of Joseph and C. Alvina Lux Ressel.
She married Arthur Kilhafner on Nov. 27, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1951. She married Louis A. Walter on Sept. 3, 1955 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 1992.
Alice worked for the U.S. Post Office for 36 years as postmaster, officer in charge, and in her last position as a window clerk in Cape Girardeau.
She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso and its St. Ann's Sodality.
She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 6407 in Scott City. She was an avid bingo and card player.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Delbert and Joan Walter of Cape Girardeau, Lindell Walter of Barnwell, S.C., and Milton and Rachel Walter of Swansea, S.C.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Jo and Tracy Delk of Barnwell, Colleen Day of Worthington, W.Va., and Lavana and Billy Baldasare of Sayreville, N.J.; one sister, Inez Moll of Scott City; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4-8 p.m. Monday. There will be a parish rosary at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Oliver Clavin on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
