RAYNE - Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 3 p.m. at a Mass of Christian Burial for Annie Victoria Schatzle Leonards, 86, who died Sunday, August 24, 2008 in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Interment will be in the St. Leo Cemetery, Rayne.
The main celebrant will be Rev. Joseph Stemmann, with Most Rev. Michael Jarrell, D.D. presiding.
Surviving are one son, Father Martin Charles Leonards, pastor of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church and St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, of Duson, two daughters, Cecile Louise Leonards and Jane Frances Leonards, both of Rayne, two grandchildren, Gerhard "Boo" Leonards LeBlanc and Anne Christine LeBlanc Guidry and husband Matthew Guidry, all of Rayne, two great-granddaughters, Hailey Elizabeth LeBlanc and Emma Theresa Guidry, both of Rayne, two great-grandsons, Hudson Charles LeBlanc and Holden Joseph LeBlanc, both of Rayne, one son-in-law, Alfred "Popcorn" LeBlanc of Rayne, and one sister, Sophie Schatzle Cramer, of Rayne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard Joseph Leonards, one son, Charles Gerhard Leonards, two daughters, Theresa Ann Leonards LeBlanc, Barbara Mary Leonards, parents, Martin and Frances Schneider Schatzle, one brother, Joseph F. Schatzle.
She was born Friday, December 9, 1921 in Iota, the daughter of the late Martin Schatzle and the late Frances Schneider Schatzle.
Victoria was a 1940 graduate of Vinton High School. She married Gerhard Joseph Leonards on November 27, 1940. Together they had six children. Victoria was a loving wife, mother grandmother, and great grandmother.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and embroidering. When her children were in school, she was an officer for St. Joseph High School Mothers School League. Victoria taught Religious Education for many years. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Rayne No.844, St. Joseph and St. Leo IV Ladies Altar Society.
Rosaries will be recited at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Wednesday, August 27, 2008, from 8 a.m. until service time at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., in Rayne.
