Hornell Evening Tribune, from David YoungROBERT J. MEHLENBACHERCANASERAGA?Robert J. Mehlenbacher, 73, of North Church Street died Saturday morning, Sept. 2, 2000.He was the son of Cyril and Beatrice Jordan Mehlenbacher of Dansville. Born January 29, 1927, Bob attended St. Patrick Parochial and Dansville High School. An army veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater in World War II, attached to a military police unit in Japan. Robert was owner/operator of Canaseraga Esso for many years. After retirement he operated the hobby shop: R/C Supply.Robert is survived by Ruth Elaine (Mehlenbacher) Mehlenbacher, his wife of 52 years, as well as his mother. He had one daughter, Holley, and a son-in-law Charles Spencer of Hornell; and three grandchildren: David Young (Kimberly Johnson) of Bluffton, S.C.; Jennifer Spencer of Ladonia, Tx, and Jesse Spencer of Hornell. He is survived by a sister and brother, Dorothy June of Penn Yan and Conrad C. Mehlenbacher (Anne) of Lewisburg, Tn. He leaves also an aunt; Marjorie Jordan of Mt. Morris and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Last but not least, a very special loved one, ?Kate,? his poodle who was always by his side.Robert will be remembered for his numerous interests and talents which included sailing, ice boating, skiing, gardening, and fishing. He was very talented musically and played several instruments. Founder of ?Klipnocky Airforce,? Bob will perhaps be remembered most often for his life-long association with airplanes both large and small, and a love of aviation. He was seen in recent years above the Canaseraga area, joyfully flying his Ultralight. Although grounded eighteen months by a battle with cancer, his thoughts and sights remained focued on love of family and friends and the adventure of flight.Friends may call at Mann Funeral Home in Canaseraga today from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral is Wednesday at 1p.m., officiated by Father Robert Mock.Please consider a memorial donation to Allegany County S.P.C. A. or Canaseraga Essential Free Library, both of which Robert quietly assisted.
