FLOYDS KNOBS - Kochert, Herman E., 87, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at home surrounded by his family.
Herman was a dairy farmer and a voice for the community during the Floyd County watershed project many years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a longtime member of St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church. Herman enjoyed playing cards, chess, and checkers and making conversation with those who visited him on the farm.
Herman was born on June 1, 1923 in Lanesville, IN to the late Louis and Anna (Day) Kochert. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Regina E. (Naville) Kochert; son, John Kochert; and brother, Clarence Kochert.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Geary, Paul Kochert, Robert Kochert (Jennifer), James Kochert, David Kochert (Missy), Jean Watson (Tim), Rita Nunemaker (Dave), Tom Kochert (Rhonda) and Dr. Sue Kochert; grandchildren, Michael Geary, Clinton and Marcy Kochert, Ben and Anna Watson, Kalie and Luke Kochert, Hannah Nunemaker and Peyton and Emma Kochert; and great-grandchild, John Geary.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church with military honors and burial to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hosparus - the Community Hospice of Southern Indiana, 624 E. Market St., New Albany or St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church, 7500 Navilleton Road, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119.

Herman E. Kochert, 87, Floyds Knobs, died Saturday, April 16, 2011, at home.
Born June 1, 1923, in Lanesville, he was the son of the late Louis and Anna Day Kochert.
He was an Army veteran, a dairy farmer and a long-time member of St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Regina E. Naville; son, John Kochert; and a brother, Clarence Kochert.
Survivors include nine children, Elizabeth Geary, Paul, Robert, James, David and Tom Kochert, Jean Watson, Rita Nunemaker and Dr. Sue Kochert; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation: Tuesday, April 19, from noon to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, April 20, after 9 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home in New Albany.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church with military honors and burial in the church cemetery.
