Samuel was born to Amos M. and Sophia Snyder Vyock. He was the first of their seven children.
Samuel married for the first time to Lydia Kemry. It is unknown how this marriage ended. In 1898 he married Minnie Ellis McCormic. They were to have two children, a son and a daughter. After Minnie's death in 1927 he married Frances Coleman. He was again widowed in 1938.
Samuel worked for the railroads all of his life. He began as a lineman, became a steam engineer until he was in his forties and then worked for the railroad in right of way maintenance. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Samuel died from a heart attack in 1939. He is buried in an unmarked grave apart from the rest of his family.
