McCort, R. Edwin

R. Edwin McCort, 95, of Marietta, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Marietta Care and Rehab Center.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 01,1917 to Nicholas P. and Jessie Fogle McCort A graduate of Beallsville High School, he graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 1880th Engineering Aviation Battalion in China, Burma, and India. He worked many years for the Marietta Division of the Ohio Highway Department and was Division 10 Construction engineer from 1959 until his retirement. He was a member of VFW Post # 5303 and Masonic Lodge # 189 in Woodsfield, Ohio and Registered Professional Engineers.
Mr. McCort is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cornelia Neuhart McCort; a daughter, Portia Ellis and her husband, Steven, of Marietta; and a son, Kevin McCort of Belpre, Ohio. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Wain of Woodsfield, Ohio and Betty Crahan of Newcomerstown, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia McCort, and one brother, Thomas McCort
At his request, he will be cremated and burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Humane Society or to the Alzheimer's Association. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park in Marietta.
