Charles E. Bott, 89, of Marietta, passed away at 8:26 a.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2011) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1921, in Woodsfield, a son of Charles and Lula Mae Lucas Bott. He was a graduate of Woodsfield High School and had been employed by Kardex until his retirement. He was a member of Steel Workers Union 3241 and had held several offices and was a member of Sixth and Washington Church of Christ. He owned a camper and loved to travel.
His first wife, Mary Bott, passed away on Jan. 2, 1969. On Aug. 1, 1970, he married Ruth Burkhart Bott, who survives with one daughter, Beverly Bott Johnson and her husband, Tom; grandchildren, Brenda (Bert) Garvin and Jeff Johnson; great-grandchildren, Amanda (Shawn) Cozzens Robert Warden Jr., Emily and Zach Johnson; and great-great-granddaughter, Raylee Cozzens; stepchildren, Greg (Pearl) Goddard, Ronald (Diane) Goddard; stepgrandchildren, Marie Rea, Michelle Hadzima, and Bill and Chad (Mari) Goddard; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Ethan, Chandler and Braiden Goddard, Skylar Witlock.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Bott; and stepgrandson, Scott Goddard.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (Jan. 21) at 1:30 p.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Roger Rush officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Woodsfield. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
